What did students have to do?
Students had to learn the persuasion techniques of claims, big names, logos, pathos, ethos, research and kairos. Once they learned the definition of each technique, they developed a script for a video presentation, where they had to put into practice all the persuasion techniques of this unit. The final outcome was a video presentation with the students working promoting certain products selected by the teacher.
What were the objectives of the unit?
In this unit, students developed an understanding of the structure and elements of a persuasive ads. Students focused their attention on the different types of persuasive techniques used in a variety of advertisements. They used authentic text to determine the components, structure, and purpose of persuasive advertisement as they begin to create their own persuasive ads using the creative process. Students left the class able to use their learning on how to evaluate and produce persuasive text to appropriately respond to persuasion in their lives.

Description of what was done in the class everyday for the week
Day 1 - After the students took a pre-test on persuasion techniques the teacher told them the correct definition of all the persuasive techniques.
Day 2 - Students practiced the persuasive techniques with some exercises.
Day 3 - Persuasive techniques game.
Day 4 - Students watched a series of videos to identify the persuasive technique used on each one.
Day 5 - The teacher provided the instructions for the video presentation.
Day 6 - The teacher discussed in detail the rubric for the video.
Day 7 - Students submitted their video recording proposals.
Day 8 - Students viewed their final video talk show and reflected on the process.

The post test results demonstrated that 21 out of 27 students mastered the material, meaning that 78% of the students were successful with the grade expectations and standards.
As a teacher, I’m very pleased with the result of incorporating active learning into my classes and get the students to create things. They showed great interest in cooperative learning.
My goal as a teacher with this unit was to show the students how to work with persuasion and have them experience with an active learning experience so that they can respond to persuasion in their lives.
